Chinese arrested for rape

A Chinese national working in the Norochcholai Coal Power plant project was arrested by the Mundalama police for allegedly raping a fourteen year old school girl.

Investigations revealed that the suspect had been working in the project as an electrician, Police Media Spokesman SP Preshantha Jayakody said.

According to SP Jayakody, the Chinese national had allegedly invited the victim into a lorry that was parked near the Mundalama Water Tank and raped her.

The suspect had then fled the area.

The 36 year old suspect was arrested by a special team that was deployed in the area after the victim’s parents lodged a complaint with the Mundalama police.

As per iformation given in this news item, what was this girl doing inside the project area and why should she accept the invitation to get into the lorry, where she was supposed to have been raped. It appears to be a cooked up story, and in the event he raped her, he should be PUNISHED, as per the law of the country.

It is terrible, what has happened to this girl! However, an arrest does not necessarily mean that the one who is arrested, is guilty - a court of law will decide this. We cannot just assume that this guy is guilty. We are not the judge or the jury, are we?

i am a chinese working in sri lanka, according to my information and view, what someone has told above is not the truth, i love sri lanka and its people, i respect everyone, and i also think the rape from that bad chineseman is not right and it is abosolutely criminal, but he can not stand for china and chinese, do not elevate him to that level, he shall be punished by the law of sri lanka.

and regarding the loan, yes, it is from the government of china, but as i know the rate is not that high, and personally i think some of the loan will be cancelled years later, china often does this, and some chinese complain about this, coz they think these cost them their tax money, but this decision made by the leaders considering the globle strategy of the country relations, do not be so cynical when u have no clear ideas about the real situation just by something guessing.

according to my information, i am not professional at law, if a man rapes an adult lady in china, he will be sentenced 4-7years, if a man raped a young girl less than 18 years old, surely he will be punished more seriously. may be 10 years, it depends, depends on the judgement of the court. i am not sure.

Local Boy, how many jobs in Chinese "sponsored " projects have Sri Lanka lost because of the use of Chinese labour?
Many of the chinese projects also make use of chinese convicts (not "heavy" crimes though). This kind of labour has not been used by western countries in their building projects in Sri Lanka.
And think what a different response it would have been if a westerner had raped a Sri Lankan woman, even worse a minor/child like in this case! Would you defend that also, Local Boy?

That is the clever deal China made and our Govt. sell it as a diplomatic success story. China invest money collect the debts including higher interest rates and bring its own employers from Chinese jails and the SL taxpayers pay all the cost. The GoSL is trying to sell it as a friend to friend offer.

This is what our so called BEST FRIENDS China does! They give us billions of rupees/ dollars, whatever you want to call it at much higher rates than the VERY EVIL World Bank, the United States, IMF! However, the Chinese are nice, because their loans come with no other fancy conditions on the govt like "make sure you tackle your corruption, so your politicians waste less money of the people", "make sure you improve your human rights so that your people will have a stronger say in govt".

All the Chinese want is to make sure you pay their money back and a few conditions like this:

1. You can only hire chinese workers, or the majority of them have to be chinese
2. You have to use Chinese technology
3. You have to use Chinese products as much as possible - hopefull all of it has to be Chinese

So basically, China gives us money at a higher rate than globally available to use that money to pay for their citizens's salary, to buy their goods and services, to buy their technology. So basically, they give us money which we then immediately give back to the Chinese economy and then when the loan due date is up, we give it back again but with interest and more! The totaly interest in this case is in excess of 100% as we are giving the money back to the Chinese twice over! ,

When the WB or the bad Americans and Europeans give us money it's very different. They usually require we hire local workers and try our best to use locally available technology so we can develop internally. Stupid Sri Lankans are left in the dark about this because China is our BEST FRIEND! But with friends like this..seriously..who needs enemies!?
