China congratulates Ranil, hails SL polls

China congratulated UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe on his election victory and said that the country was willing to enhance mutual beneficial cooperation with Sri Lanka to push forward bilateral strategic partnership.

"The parliamentary election in Sri Lanka went on steadily and smoothly. Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe's United National Party won the election and will lead to form the next government. We want to express our congratulations, We believe that under the leadership of the new government, Sri Lanka will achieve greater progress in its economic and social development. " Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hua Chunying said in a statement on Tuesday.

According to foreign media, Hua had said that they believed Sri Lanka would make greater achievements in economic and social development under the leadership of the new government.
