Not a single allegation levelled against former Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal had been investigated so far, Deputy Minister Harsha de Silva said today.

He said however, the incumbent CB Governor’s decision to have taken leave till the investigation into the CB bond issue was completed was a positive aspect of ‘Yahapalanaya’

Dr. De Silva said the Governor could not be removed temporarily and thus his decision to go on leave was the next best thing to do.

“The former CB Governor was blamed for several irregularities such as investments made in loss-making institutions by misusing the Employees Provident Fund, but no action was taken against him. Parliament will decide on the fate of the incumbent Governor based on the report of the Committee appointed by the Prime Minister to investigate the CB bond issue,” he told a news conference. Mahendran case is a recent issue. what about others who have records of murder, drug trafficking and many more irregularities perpetrated for the lasr several years why not bring them to task.

    Jayasingha Thursday, 19 March 2015 12:38 AM

No probe against Cabral and own committee probe to whitewash Mahendran. Good mega deal A -La Yahapalanaya. What is the executive president doing? Is he under obligation to Ranil and being hear no evil, see no evil?

Prem Nath Thursday, 19 March 2015 12:53 AM

He was appointed by the president, cannot he be removed by the president? O/w he should have been asked to resign. O yes,he is a dual passport holder, has he deposited US$25,000 into a bank a/c in SriLanka?

People voted you to take action against Cabraal - but you failed up to this moment. Whose failure is it? Yours or ours?

asiyawe aschrya Thursday, 19 March 2015 03:31 AM

why no inquiry against cabraal? is it because some of the pump and dump deals were done by perpetual treasuries(mahendrans son in law) at the expense of epf ?

Saman Alles Thursday, 19 March 2015 09:08 AM

Mahendran had a conflict of interest from the get go due to his link with Perpetual. He was also not a Sri Lankan but got nationality recently for the purpose of becoming governor. Mahendran was appointed byRanil. Now Ranil has appointed another committee to investigate his previous appointments actions. Is this the UNP comedy version of Yahapalanaya?

Sandun Singha Thursday, 19 March 2015 09:13 AM

Dr. Harsha, when in the opposition you did a lot of technical analysis to show the faults of the past government. Why are you so silent on the CB issue which is of national importance? Is is because a technical analysis will reveal massive corruption?

    bandula Thursday, 19 March 2015 09:15 AM

The deaf, and dumb attitude of the Yahapalana Govt against mass corruption and misappropriations seem to be boomaranging on them. Now Yahapaalanaya can forget about Kabraal and probe on Mahendran. There is a proverb "Oorage maalu oorage egema thiyala kapanawaa!" Goooooooood gooooooooooooood

    Clif Thursday, 19 March 2015 01:29 PM

Why leave out Cabarala????have you all got a kickback

media watcher Friday, 20 March 2015 07:24 AM

Why pointing finger at someone else without addressing the current isssue? First address the current issue then look into the past ones.
