The Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) will frame charges against General Sarath Fonseka, Dhanuna Tilekaratne’s mother and several others on the advice of the AG’s Department under the Exchange Control Act in the next fortnight, a senior AG’s Department source said.

This follows the detection of US$ 527,000, Sterling Pound 100 and Rs.15 million concealed in four safety deposit boxes maintained by Mrs. Tilakaratne, in a private bank by the CCD on February 15.

Mrs. Tilakaratne was quoted as saying that the cash had been deposited in the safe locker of the private bank from General Fonseka’s election office at Rajakeeya Mawatha.

The source told Daily Mirror on conditions of anonymity that a final decision on the indictment against Genera Fonseka, Mrs. Tilakaratne and a few others will be taken once Attorney General Mohan Peiris returns back to the island from an official engagement overseas.

“We have gone through the dossier sent by the CCD and there is sufficient material to frame charges against them. The police will indict the suspects directly in the High Court of Colombo as a magisterial inquiry is not required when dealing with the offences committed under the provisions of the Exchange Control Act,” the source said.  (SAJ)

    Tuesday, 02 March 2010 08:56 AM

That's right get him by hook or crook. Let all the govt illegal acts fall by the wayside - thats the way to go CID & AG. Your bread and butter short term today but the ruin of the country long term.

    Tuesday, 02 March 2010 09:03 AM

FIRST AG & CID should check the safes of all the Government Ministers and there families.

    Tuesday, 02 March 2010 09:03 AM

A fantastic discovery by the smart cops of Sri Lanka! Ha! Ha!

    Tuesday, 02 March 2010 09:04 AM

Are the people who are casting the first stone above reproach. This is really a witch hunt to take revenge from the man who was brave enough to challenge the powerful so called king. If the CID is really interested, they can find loads and loads of foreign exchange and black money with the top politicians of the country but then they will never do it unless orders come from the top.

    Tuesday, 02 March 2010 09:05 AM

CID and AG, on whos side are they?

    Tuesday, 02 March 2010 09:09 AM

HIT HIM LEFT RIGHT AND CENTRE SO THAT SURVIVAL OF THE FRAUDSTERS COULD BE ENSURED. WHAT A SHAME. LET ALL DOCTRINES RELIGIOUS AND OTHER VALUES GO TO DOGS.

    Tuesday, 02 March 2010 09:29 AM

W e all are free because of him. We are now fully enjoy the freedom from terror. The man who rescued all of us from terror is in jail. What a pitty country this is?

    Tuesday, 02 March 2010 09:31 AM

FUNNY, ALL THE ONE`S WHO ARE ON THE UPFA OR THE GOVERNMENT SIDE ARE ABSOLUTELY CLEAN. "LAND LIKE NO OTHER".

    Tuesday, 02 March 2010 09:38 AM

    And their foreign bank accounts.

    Tuesday, 02 March 2010 09:40 AM

After arrest only they look for charges. But, arrest should be made on charges. Law is a lame duck in Sri-Lanka.

    Tuesday, 02 March 2010 09:42 AM

AG & CID on light duty..!

    Tuesday, 02 March 2010 09:49 AM

    Tuesday, 02 March 2010 10:16 AM

Charging him in a court of law is most suitabe. One must not be over biased though the vote was cast in favour of General Swan.

    Tuesday, 02 March 2010 10:26 AM

At last they found something against General, and something for others to laugh.

    Tuesday, 02 March 2010 10:30 AM

The heading says it all... CID is to "FRAME" charges...

    Tuesday, 02 March 2010 10:31 AM

    Pour encourager les autres!

    Tuesday, 02 March 2010 10:34 AM

SF's money is not public money i suppose. but all other policians have spent and have been spending public Money. So we care those money only.

    Tuesday, 02 March 2010 10:39 AM

Oh what a Government. Now they need CID for a accusation for Mr. Fonseka and his Family. With this President who make his own law Sri Lanka goes deep and deeper. Its very sad what happend !

    Wednesday, 03 March 2010 04:26 AM

May the Attorney Gen inquire into all bank accounts & vaults of all politicians, especially those contesting the polls. The royal sibling hs declared his assets & liabilities - may the AG inquire whether the declarations is correct & reveals all his assets in the US as well.

    Tuesday, 02 March 2010 11:03 AM

How about Mahinda Rajapakshe & Bros. won't the AG trap them first for all their - unfair games and for their misbehaviours etc., Are they saints?

    Tuesday, 02 March 2010 11:04 AM

Oh.... Mahinda is so scared about General Sarath Fonseka.

    Tuesday, 02 March 2010 11:09 AM

Bring him SC first. Then you can find real culprit.........

    Tuesday, 02 March 2010 06:43 PM

What can happen in Geneva that can affect SF's future?

    Tuesday, 02 March 2010 11:21 AM

This is the initial step to enter into ' wonder of Asia.'

    Tuesday, 02 March 2010 11:28 AM

One lesson to be learned from all this is that NEVER deposit in a Sri Lankan bank.

Far better to bury it in one's own backyard be it ill-gotten gains or money legitimately earned.

    Tuesday, 02 March 2010 11:38 AM

the same thing is being said ever since he was arrested...

looks lyk the govt dont know how long a fortnight is....

    Tuesday, 02 March 2010 11:49 AM

    Tuesday, 02 March 2010 11:49 AM

    Tuesday, 02 March 2010 11:54 AM

    Wednesday, 03 March 2010 05:58 AM

The CID along with the AG should investigate the Tsunami Funds.

    Tuesday, 02 March 2010 11:59 AM

    Tuesday, 02 March 2010 12:23 PM

Hey Bala why dont you endorse an investigation of the guys at the top.

    Tuesday, 02 March 2010 11:18 PM

Only one thing comes to my mind, with regard to this episode. Please do not look-up and spit, because it will land on your face.

    Tuesday, 02 March 2010 12:28 PM

Gotabaya and Mahinda are determined to get General Sarath Fonseka because he had to guts to stand up against them. Let me tell you very confidently they will FAIL. Their plans will back fire on them

    Tuesday, 02 March 2010 12:35 PM

If anybody violates the rule of the country, i.e. exchange control regulations, he or she should be brought to the book. Well done CCD & AG. No one is above the law. Please act speedily and bring all the culprits to the book.
