YEH your MR and the gang wanted it to extend it up to 256. UNP insisted it keep it under 225. I think finaly considering all the facts they have come to an agreement.

    Gunawardana Friday, 12 June 2015 03:13 PM

I voted for MR cuz I thought this govt would destabilize the country, bring back the LTTE etc.Thank god I am wrong and they are working for unity and the future

    kukula. Friday, 12 June 2015 03:14 PM

So MR will have some room in the parliament.

    Eng. M.V.R.Perera Friday, 12 June 2015 03:34 PM

Consider cutting down the Provincial Councils members to100 we are the people who have to bear all these burdens is it the people who are supreme or these MPs mafia

    Sikuru Friday, 12 June 2015 03:40 PM

Yes but the UPFA wanted to increase it to 255 so its not much room as they wanted

Sri Lankan Friday, 12 June 2015 03:47 PM

    Sikuru Friday, 12 June 2015 05:51 PM

@srilankan The current govt is an interim govt created just for the reforms, they are only making way for the new govt that will develop SL

12 MORE FREELOADERS WILL ADD TO THE BURDEN ON PEOPLE

    Sarath Friday, 12 June 2015 07:45 PM

Yes but now it is harder for thugs to come in, more educated MPs are better than a few educated guys surrounded by thugs

    AR Monday, 15 June 2015 08:43 AM

How many women and minorities will be given opportunities? Equally?

    Janith Friday, 12 June 2015 01:58 PM

Problems will arise when decreasing electoral seat from 160 to 145. Minority parties will never allow seats from their districts to be scrapped. In the end main parties will have to agree to scrap seats only from other districts.

    Amila Friday, 12 June 2015 01:23 PM

Finally, They got what they want. 12 more MPs

    upali Friday, 12 June 2015 01:32 PM

We still do not know whether minor parties agree for this.

    Good work....

sri lankan Friday, 12 June 2015 01:55 PM

Good job. Enough of constitutional making. Can we focus on the economy now ?

    Man Friday, 12 June 2015 01:57 PM

What is the benefit that the ordinary people will receive, irrespective of the race, etc., by increasing the number of MPs ? It is only a burden for them. Nothing else.

    Sikuru Friday, 12 June 2015 01:11 PM

They had to increase the MPs because if not it would be unfair for minor parties, anyway good luck to the pres and PM

    Simenthi Friday, 12 June 2015 02:10 PM

UPFA wanted 255 seats and this is less, It may end up like the 19A in the end

    Fassey Friday, 12 June 2015 02:18 PM

    At last it happened.

    Leezar Friday, 12 June 2015 02:20 PM

Anybody who is more concerned about the numbers should also consider the "CLEANLINESS OF THE PARLIAMENTARIANS". All the best Sri Lanka!!!

    SL Friday, 12 June 2015 02:25 PM

why do they want to increase the number of members if they really want to serve the country as a whole?Only the racists wants to help only their own community ,this is the curse we the Sri Lankan have .High time to crush this unacceptable ethnically divided politics

    Krish Friday, 12 June 2015 02:26 PM

And the cost of additional 12 MPs will be borne by the General Public via price increases.. ???

    suranjith Friday, 12 June 2015 02:27 PM

take a bet within one year after elected under new system everyone will feel about the major short coming. what we had was the best if not preferential votes or so called manapa pore.new system will make mockery of parliament system as it will give major boost to one particular party to gain over majority and play a hell. we had seen that in 1970
