I saw the scene of this murder on TV(blurred images).Really cold blooding.it was in front of around spectators in broad daylight.nobody approached him even to give him a hand until ambulance came and picked him up.terrible! This will definitely raise more safety concerns to foreigners as well as locals touring south. via DM Android App

Crime is noticed and counted if it is done by others and by them!

I am a sinhala film addict and I am still to see a film where a victim goes to the police to get restitution. He/she takes the law into own hands and gets revenge. This is sending the wrong message to our people that (a) the police cannot be trusted and (b) it is OK to attack. Cases of this nature should be thoroughly investigated by the police service resourced adequately to build up confidence.

Being a Buddhist myself, I am truly ashamed that such abhorrent crimes happen here, where we preach Dhamma all day on poya days. To dismiss these as normal as they happen elsewhere too, is cowardice. The chances are the victims and the perpetrators were all Buddhists as well.

Mixing religious values and not meting out judgments delivered by apex courts for murders and rapes is in itself demonstration of disrespect to religions. No one talks about the agony of the victims Human Rights Watch fellows are also idiots as they cannot see them
Hang these buggers at Galle face green and normalcy will return immediately. Thailand, Japan are also Buddhist countries where capital punishment is meted out why SL is special

the gov cant give up the responsibility they hold to maintain law and order in the country. there should be a penalty for all these cruel things.

Day light murder in the 3rd capital in Sri Lanka.
Where is law & order ??
If MR fails to take immediate action against rising crimes, no doubt our island will become a "Killing Field" soon.
DEATH PENALTY IS THE IMMEDIATE ONLY SOLUTION !
Any leader who fails to re-implement Death Penalty will be cursed by innocent civilians and the GOD !!

Government should take the full responsibility for this situation because no action has been taken against the politicians and their stooges who leashed violence in public.

Surain,
Wasn't there any crime in SL before the Chinthana come into effect. Haven't you heard of masacres such as that happened in Hokandara about 15 years ago! In which country are you living?
Surain Thursday, 25 October 2012 03:47 PM

Southern Sinhalese are showing how Buddhism should be practiced on the public places.
When these thugs takes there swords it symbolises how pathetic country is on.
RH Thursday, 25 October 2012 12:55 PM
There is no increase in the crime rate. Only the brutality has changed. This incident is proof to that.
Bonnie Mallie Thursday, 25 October 2012 12:39 PM
Dhamma Rajjaya...religion should not be only preached but must be practised

Amazing stuff! Still the best place to visit for 2013! A 80% Buddhist country behaving like this! No law and (or) order from top to bottom! Miracle of Asia indeed!

There is no law and order in the Country today, the day time crime is all time high.
The promise given to the people to eliminate crime has not been fulfilled, instead we see an increase in crimes of all kinds.
Lankalion Thursday, 25 October 2012 11:32 AM
Disgusting! You wonder where this country is headed!
buffaloa citizen Thursday, 25 October 2012 11:30 AM
Great stuff, typical southern yakko culture, not at all a surprise.
siri Thursday, 25 October 2012 11:29 AM
On a seperate note, crimes of this nature are no longer a surprise. Law and order completely gone to the dogs and killers no longer fear the so called 'long' arm of the law.
