A businessman who had allegedly bought pilfered computer toners from two peons attached to from the President’s Private Secretary’s Office was released on bail by a Colombo Court today.

After taking into consideration a bail application by the suspect, the Colombo High Court had granted bail to the suspect Manoj Kumara.

Meanwhile, the two peons attached to the President’s Private Secretary’s Office who were allegedly involved in pilfering stationery and computer toners from the stores of Temple Trees were further remanded till November 23 by the Colombo Fort Magistrate.

The CID had alleged that the two peons, who had been working in the President’s Private  Secretary’s Office, had altered the requisition forms in a bid to obtain additional stationery and computer toners from the stores at Temple Trees. The CID further alleged that the items pilfered from the stores had been sold to a businessman at Lotus Road in Colombo 1, an offence punishable under the Public Property Act. Filing a further investigation report in Court, the CID said that the two peons had also sold four computer toners to the third suspect, the businessman. (Lakmal Sooriyagoda)
