Britain has advised its citizens travelling to Sri Lanka mainly in the southern beach resorts to be vigilant as there have been reports of drinks being spiked with drugs.

Issuing an updated travel advisory, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office said, “There have been reports of drinks being spiked with drugs in bars and restaurants in southern beach resorts. Be careful about taking drinks from strangers at bars and restaurants, and don’t leave drinks unattended.”

    Bombily Monday, 14 April 2014 01:15 PM

    Yes it could happen anywhere.

It does happen in UK as well but culprits are caught and punished.

But in SL because the law & order has gone to dogs, although the culprits are known, most of the time they are politicos or their gundas & hence no punishment.

Ive heard reports that this happens in thailand esp around the islands of ko tao ko phagnan nd ko samui ! Drinks are spiked with drugs to keep the people hooked on in buying more of it. Best to not accept drinks from strangers or drink at shady bars.

    bobby Sunday, 13 April 2014 01:29 AM

Well looks like the country is heading the right direction

    Ahmed Sunday, 13 April 2014 12:19 AM

There can be one isolated incident . this can happen any where in the world. However, its not good for the countries image and its very serious threat to the tourism. Government should take very serious steps to counter this if at all happening these kind of things.
