The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) informed the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s court today that the case of the murder of British tourist Kuram Shaikh was transferred to Colombo due to the suspects allegedly threatening witnesses.

The case which was initially heard at the Tangalle Magistrate’s court was taken up in Colombo today after the Attorney General’s department requested the transfer on special grounds.

The suspects which include the Chairman of the Tangalle Prageshiya Sabha who were released on bail previously were ordered to appear before court on November 1.(FT)

Very disgraceful act. No wonder the EU and UK have bad impression on Lanka. In Sri lanka the Public is Gold but majority of the politicians are Garbage.

for the safety of the witness lock them up in the cell. that is suitable for SL law

    VoiceOfLanka Friday, 28 June 2013 12:14 PM

This is inevitable when MR got rid of decent leaders who stood for discipline and justice, SF and Shiranee B.

    neil Saturday, 29 June 2013 07:37 AM

Australia, UK all white-persons' countries should boycott SL all together. As it is , the country will go bankrupt soon then these political rapist and ther King MR will get the same medicine. These guys are rapist who raped an injured woman after killing her partner..animals are million times better..where are our BBS monks

Nadi Karunaratne Friday, 28 June 2013 12:24 PM

!8 months and got nowhere despite having all evidence and witnesses necessary - the law should be above politics in a civilized state. Judges complain about executive interference and get beaten up and impeached. We don't want to be a lawless, mafia state. The governments inertia and indifference shames the nation- jungle law.

THUG RULE--- FROM TOP TO BOTTOM!!!!!

Ariya Gunasinghe Friday, 28 June 2013 09:29 PM

Is it rational to believe that the problem of witnesses being threatened will disappear because the case has been now transferred to Colombo? Obviously, all parties involved (namely, the suspects free on bail ( and, free for action, too) and the witnesses) are still living in the same locations.

    BuffaloaCitizen Friday, 28 June 2013 07:54 AM

So because the CID are cowards they have transfered the case to Colombo due to threats in Tangalle. Now if their are threats to this case in Colombo (we know that the chief suspect is very close to MR and MR is in Colombo white van and all) where will you transfer the case? What bloody humbug logic.

moving the case to Colombo is just an eye-wash to hoodwink the international comunity and to blunt the critizism from Britain.
Victims and their families will never see the justice on this matter and that you can take it to the bank!

    Garry Friday, 28 June 2013 08:09 AM

this is hilarious, they can escape from justice mentioning presidents name, even a case against a rape and murder they translate as mudslinging towards president. please hang this animal to show we are serious about law and order. otherwise we cannot blame britton or any other country for any action taken against us.

Mother Lanka has been waiting since 70s; but nothing really happened, because the country is full of opportunists and fools. Our history says it all, so if you believe in reincarnation, pray at your temple, not to be born as a Sri Lankan again.

oh what a country, suspects are out on bail and threatening the witness, next what will we hear is that witness' are locked up for their own safety.

    Minan Friday, 28 June 2013 06:15 AM

This is what happening in Sri Lanka, those who have political power can do a crime and threaten the witness to escape from the law.

The God Father Friday, 28 June 2013 06:22 AM

Looks like our CID is doing a great job, hope our law makers let them operate independently for us to obtain our common goal that is the miracle of Asia.

    Gemba Saturday, 29 June 2013 06:09 AM

If we are to save whatever is left of the good name of Sri Lanka, they need to bring these culprits to justice as soon as possible. No further delays are necessary. If we could indict a DIG in double quick time & have him remanded, why not do the same to a bunch of riff raff murderers & rapists.

    Karan Friday, 28 June 2013 11:33 AM

see the way accused talks....he thinks that court proceedings against his alleged crimes (killing British tourist Kurram Shaikh) are done to destabilize the the government...i would say, the law should punish these kind of people who are tarnishing the image of SL then only foreigners and tourists will keep faith on law and order of this country....if it fails then that means there's no democracy in this SL.

Good on the Attorney General's department. At least now we expect justice to prevail in this horrible murder case. I hope they woud recall bail, get the culprits into custody in Colombo & bring them to justice, without sweeping it under the rug.
