Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa yesterday briefed the visiting delegation from the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) on Sri Lanka’s latest situation

The economic development ministry in a statement said, Minister Rajapaksa met the representatives of the OHCHR delegation in Colombo, headed Mr. Hanny Megally - Chief, Asia Pacific and Middle East and North African Branch accompanied by Mr. Oscar Solers - Human rights officer, Rule of Law and Democracy selection of OHCHR.

During the discussions, the Minister had highlighted the government’s tireless efforts to ensure the conflict-affected masses in the North and East were granted the most important human right – basic facilities to restart their lives following the end of the conflict.

The statement further read Minister Rajapaksa had stated the people in the North and East are enjoying infrastructure facilities well over the other provinces, owing to the reconstruction and renovation of roads, irrigation facilities, water, electricity, education facilities, hospitals and bridges under the Government initiated massive infrastructure development program.
