Democratic Party (DP) Leader Sarath Fonseka today accused the main opposition political party had tried to woo some DP provincial councillors into its fold.

He said opposition political parties should not create division among other opposition parties but instead concentrate on challenging the ruling party.

Mr. Fonseka said a person claiming to be United National Party (UNP) Deputy Leader Sajith Premadasa had contacted Southern Provincial Council’s DP Member Amarasiri Kuruwage and invited him to join the UNP.

Mr. Fonseka said this particular person had phoned Mr. Kuruwage at 4.00 a.m. “I wake up early in the morning like my father,” the caller had told Mr. Kuruwage.

“All opposition political parties should challenge the common enemy which is the ruling party instead of trying to woo members of other political parties to their fold,” Mr. Fonseka added. (Yohan Perera and Ajith Siriwardana)

Sarath Fonseka has only deduced the caller was Sajith because he had supposedly said he wakes up early like his father. Sarath Fonseka is clutching at straws trying to grab a headline or two attempting to keep his dwindling Party in the news. He might try streaking next.
