They are economic refugees, not genuine refugees, NOT falling into the category of UN refugee charter, so they must be packed back home to where they come from.

Its about time our ultra intelligent politicians took time off their busy schedule building ports, airports, ultra modern sports complexes, art galleries, etc. and looked into why people abandoning Sri Lanka and tarnishing our image overseas.

The good majority of these people are economic migrants seeking greener pastures in Aussi wearing the "refugee" label. The more the Aussi govt treats them as "asylum seekers" the more the smuggling will continue.
If a few boats are turned back pronto and indications are given of no chances to land the smuggling is bound to stop.
The smugglers' ruse seems to be to overcrowd the detention centres as much as possible so that at some point in time the Aussi govt will be forced to take these people to the mainland which is what these people want.

When survival becomes difficult and there is no hope in sight people start moving.
