Bribery sleuths arrested an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) from the Nugegoda area a short while ago at a temple in Wijerama for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs. one million out of 1.2 million demanded from a woman in Maharagama, officials said.

As reported this bribe has allegedly been taken to remove a group of people from a welfare centre building located close to the Maharagama Cancer hospital which they are forcibly occupying. (Dailymirror Online)

A number of people point fingers at the police and say they are corrupt. It would seem that some are. However, isn't this a bit like the pot calling the kettle black? The man make take the bribe--who offers it? A foreigner? No, it is a fellow countryman whose morals are no stronger than those of the bribe taker. It takes two to tango, and both were cut from the same bolt of cloth.

Good show, nowadays even the higher up's in the Police are prone to Bribery & corruption. In the good old days it was unheard of that a 'Gazetted officer' ever being found foul of the law. Its a sad tale of affairs what is happening in Sri Lanka.

Kolomba Kaka Saturday, 10 March 2012 01:30 AM

He can escape if he has the right connections in the right places!

    Semasinghe Saturday, 10 March 2012 01:55 AM

Well done! These type of officers should be fired from SL Police to preserve the force's reputation..
