Arrested for illegal transportation of goats

Two suspects were taken into custody on a charge of cruelty to animals. They had been transporting 15 head of goats including two pregnant she-goats in a congested lorry from Maskeliya to Ja-ela.

A senior police official said the suspects had been transporting goats from Maskeliya area for slaughter. He said the suspects and the lorry with goats would be produced before the Hatton Magistrate. (Sudath M. Hewa)
