A warrant to arrest Parliamentarian Arjuna Ranatunga was issued by the Galle Chief Magistrate Thamara Thennekone today for failing to appear before the court.

MP Ranatunga and a few others had been charged with destruction of public property, during the agitation and the protest demonstration held in Galle demanding the release of DNA leader, General Sarath Fonseka.

As he did not appear in courts, the warrants had been issued and his counsel informed court that he was unable to appear as he was not in Sri Lanka.

    maluman Monday, 17 January 2011 04:50 PM

It is no coincidence that those who are being arrested these days are all from the opposition (ranjan, arjuna, SF, manamendra, Ravi). What about kelaniya king who brazenly breaks laws??

    dwight Monday, 17 January 2011 04:58 PM

arjuna is also atrue hero.he lead from front during his cricketing days.He never wanted to get the credit by just staying in ac roos saying that he is the captain and he should get the full credit for victories. He toiled under the hot sun and rain.Batted, fielded and lead the team.He is also like sf and that is why he is also trying to get the freedom for real war hero

    bash Monday, 17 January 2011 05:12 PM

Only Wimal Weeraawansa can get away on matters of this nature

    Spencer L Monday, 17 January 2011 05:13 PM

There cannot be different laws for MP's and general public. He should be taken in to custody and present before the court.

    rosh Monday, 17 January 2011 05:17 PM

what has Arjuna to do with this then?

    tharuj Tuesday, 18 January 2011 07:00 AM

    Thas Monday, 17 January 2011 09:52 PM

Whether there is warrent or anything else, nothing will happen. May be the Magistrate will be transfered on punishment. That's SL.

    Ranjith Monday, 17 January 2011 10:34 PM

For those who are against the regime, our courts and police acts very fast. No fair go for ordinary. Are we living in Myanmar, China or North Korea?

    Voter Tuesday, 18 January 2011 08:24 AM

Why is MR and Gota trying to hound out all GFs supporters? Are they afraid of a Deva Kopaya! or a complete revolution to oust the Rajapakse Inc. in Sri Lanka very soon!!!

    Bonda Tuesday, 18 January 2011 04:19 PM

    Regi Tuesday, 18 January 2011 02:51 AM

With the Cricket World Cup round the corner, this will be an embarassment to us.

    Fayad Tuesday, 18 January 2011 02:52 AM

If some one represent their country in cricket won't mean he is above the law, he should have appeared in courts.

    gona Tuesday, 18 January 2011 09:35 AM

Convenient to be out of the country when he knew he was due to attend court. In any country this would result in a warrant being issued, so why are some of you asking for different treatment, this is exactly the problem that the country is trying to get away from

    ranjith Tuesday, 18 January 2011 03:31 AM

he is not above the law, he has to get down from his high mentality and be an average citzen

Gayan Samarasekara Tuesday, 18 January 2011 03:32 AM

As a government supporter such actions like this will thrill you at the moment. When it comes to contradicting to your opinions someday you will start criticizing it as a violation of democracy. In order to be secured under any regime, people should be matured enough to stand up for democracy irrespective of the love they have with the ruling party.

    Ashoka Tuesday, 18 January 2011 03:40 AM

Democracy is in grave danger in our country. People cannot do even a demostration, The surprising matter is still some people support this clang.
