Arrest warrant on Arjuna

A warrant to arrest Parliamentarian Arjuna Ranatunga was issued by the Galle Chief Magistrate Thamara Thennekone today for failing to appear before the court.

MP Ranatunga and a few others had been charged with destruction of public property, during the agitation and the protest demonstration held in Galle demanding the release of DNA leader, General Sarath Fonseka.

As he did not appear in courts, the warrants had been issued and his counsel informed court that he was unable to appear as he was not in Sri Lanka.

As a government supporter such actions like this will thrill you at the moment. When it comes to contradicting to your opinions someday you will start criticizing it as a violation of democracy. In order to be secured under any regime, people should be matured enough to stand up for democracy irrespective of the love they have with the ruling party.

Convenient to be out of the country when he knew he was due to attend court. In any country this would result in a warrant being issued, so why are some of you asking for different treatment, this is exactly the problem that the country is trying to get away from
