Army Commander Daya Ratnayake directed senior officers to swiftly conduct inquiries into the arrest of a soldier with Rs.2.7 million worth fake currency notes and support the Police to carry on with investigations in order to find out whether any more of the suspect’s associates, were involved in the fraud.

The Army said that “some handfuls of young men, unaware of the dignity and reputation of the Army, went on joining the Army at the height of the recent war and continue to engage in undisciplined acts of this nature in civil society, thus tarnishing the image of the organization.”

The statement also said that Army Chief underlines that stern action would be taken against such errant Army personnel in consistent with his ‘zero tolerance’ policy on wrongdoers.

The recent war was five years ago, ended in 2009. There should have been a rehabilitation process for the soldiers as well to integrate them into the civil society. Five years is a long period to have done something positively to change the mind sets of misguided soldiers. via DM iPad app

Dear Army Commander Daya Ratnayake, please don't try to cover up your guy and pass the ball to others... its UN-fair. At-present, your guy only got caught with fake currency notes, so the proper action should be taken against him first and then investigate instead.

Great work Mr. Commander. I wish that the same "Zero Tolerance" policy could be applied equally to all in this country. Why only the sprats get punished when sharks plunder with impunity.
