    Monday, 18 January 2010 09:55 AM

Sri Lankan people should realize that who ever comes to power should restore the democracy. Everybody has there own right to follow/vote as their wish. As a community we should not give bad precedence to our younger generation. Otherwise next person will do more harm and it will go on. We should kindly request Incumbent President and The General to advice their followers to stop these crimes sake of our younger generation.

God! Give public the power over the ugly politicians.!

I would say; whoever does not like MR is against corruption and whover does not like SF is admired by MR's development activities carried out by public money.

people will start taking the law onto their own hands.
This is a dreaded situation we do not like to see

    Monday, 18 January 2010 08:17 AM

it looks like the president cannot already controll the country from violence how can we depend on him and give the country back again for him to rule???

PLEASE STOP STATE SPONSORED TERRORISM. THIS IS A VERY UGLY IMAGE OF SRILANKA .

    Monday, 18 January 2010 02:30 PM

We can see if this government continues for another term full of corruptions and masses of murders, violence. Sri-Lanka will be like Haiti. Therefore change is immediately needed and opportunity to be taken on 26th to change this corrupt regime.

    Monday, 18 January 2010 02:35 PM

Death and violence are not Sri Lanka should be remembered for. Please let there be some Ahimsa. As a Tamil who has lived in Sri Lanka I have seen personal loss. This should not be anybody's destiny. This sort of violence should stop at leats as amark of respect for those who have died and for those who are suffering as a result of violence.

    Monday, 18 January 2010 02:50 PM

VOTE FOR A BETTER SRI LANKA

These murders are really acts of terrorism. My deepest sympathy to all victims and their families. May God guide criminals. Mahruf

    Monday, 18 January 2010 09:41 PM

My heartfelt condolences, to all the families of the victims! Those who are killing each other don't realize that MR & SF will be having tea, at the same table, when this election is over.

    Tuesday, 19 January 2010 05:32 AM

So they kill people as part of the democratic system, so that one can be elected to be the king......sorry. I meant the exective president. Is it worth beating someone to death with clubs? Are parts of our society living in the dark ages still. This is an election not war. Or is it?
    Sad.

    Tuesday, 19 January 2010 05:50 AM

spot on Ashoka. the generality and audacity with which laws are being flouted and intimidation is taking place, is shocking. and the acceptanbce of all of this by the rulers and public is scary. people decide their vote on differnt reasons. my vote was undecided till last weekend. a govt politician and his goons running riot in kolonnawa helped me decide mine. may Allah protect all.

    Tuesday, 19 January 2010 08:01 AM

You really have given me food for thought Sampath when you say its the uneducated that vote for MR. But Sri Lankans are supposed to have the highest literary rate in Asia. Yet even the educated don't seem to care about the mess that MR, his family and ministers have made of this country. How is it that our people can be fooled to that extent? Why is it that village people love it when politicians act like idiots throwing their arms around, smiling all the time, cuddling babies and old ladies, promising the sun, moon and stars and generally acting like clowns; whereas when someone acts in a dignified and stately manner they don't like it. I just cannot understand this.

    Tuesday, 19 January 2010 08:03 AM

He is keeping silent because he endorses it.

    Tuesday, 19 January 2010 08:05 AM

Pasting posters is banned only for the opposition. You must be blind if you cannot see the number of cutouts and posters that abound in this country.

    Monday, 18 January 2010 05:36 AM

my deepest sympathies to his family and this government

    Monday, 18 January 2010 04:53 AM

Hope these people wont start slaughtering people who go to vote peacefully on 26th morning. This country definitely needs a change. We all hope and pray that it will happen. Right now there is nobody to protect the people of sri lanka.

    Monday, 18 January 2010 04:59 AM

This country moving towards another disaster period!.

    Monday, 18 January 2010 05:01 AM

All the people in Sri Lanka must condemn such brutal behavior.

    Monday, 18 January 2010 05:03 AM

Our nation has the laws of the jungle. May sanity prevail soon on this land.

    Monday, 18 January 2010 05:11 AM

MR need to remain as president by hook or by crook. People who have personal benefits and uneducated people will vote for MR.

    Monday, 18 January 2010 05:31 AM

This rulers are driving the country to a barbarion era.

Let's put hands together to end this ruling system under a new leader.

    Monday, 18 January 2010 05:32 AM

In May 2009 I was proud to be a Sri Lankan. Today I am ashamed of it. Hope a change in leadership on 26th Jan will help to change me again. God bless us all.

    Monday, 18 January 2010 05:34 AM

Who says there is no terrorism in this country. Isn't this tantamount to terrorism? Can't there be an opposition in this country? Can't a person to have a political view? This is a very pathetic, barbarian act. People should rally to eradicate state terrorism.

    Monday, 18 January 2010 04:51 AM

SL is fast turning into a 'killing field'. What's the use of crushing LTTE terror when there is terrorism in the rest of the country. Is this the type of freedom of movement provided to us over the last 4 years?! 1994 was PC elections terror, for which all politicians were responsible. Judging from which side the scale tip, it shows which contender is most vicious. Mud-slinging is better than club-swining or gun-toiting.

    Monday, 18 January 2010 05:37 AM

This is called the state sponsored terrorism. The suspefcts will be treated like kings for doing such things. I beg the people of this country to take a wise decision on 26th.

    Monday, 18 January 2010 05:51 AM

H.E.President, If you keep silent and let your supporters to spread violence, I am sure you will lose on 26th. If you want to protect your votes, Please, Please take action against this violence.

    Monday, 18 January 2010 06:12 AM

Not much can be achieved when we view every occurrence from the prism of party politics.

Whoever breaks the law must be punished.

If you condone this action because you are a MR loyalist you are not only doing a disservice to the country but yourself as well

    Monday, 18 January 2010 06:30 AM

We do not want this election!!! Why are we killing each other ? I am sure after election it will be worse! only peace we will have in North and east ... This is unwanted, we should have had the election only in another 2 years!!

    Monday, 18 January 2010 06:34 AM

Now Srilankans Not a Fools... well said sampath.. it is the true situation..

    Monday, 18 January 2010 06:46 AM

Dear President, please observe one moments silence at the next rally and condemn this brutal killing since late Dhammika Herath is also a Sri Lankan citizen. Our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. The President should also punish these killers. We need a change and only then can democracy be achieved.

    Monday, 18 January 2010 07:07 AM

What a waste of a human life...

Both sides must stop slinging mud and discuss / debate real issues - what is in store for us in the next 6 years -

Plus media freedom is a must.....

    Monday, 18 January 2010 07:08 AM

No proper action to curb this sort of killings by the authorities therefore this will not be the last. We Sri Lankans are passive until it comes to 'me' or 'my...' Remember Angunawala? how the people gathered against the abuse of power? Now is the time the whole nation should arise. enough is enough.

    Monday, 18 January 2010 07:29 AM

Pasting posters during elections period is banned.

    Monday, 18 January 2010 07:29 AM

Then again after 2 years time these dumb ppl will start doing the same again..I guess our country will do fine without politics......!!!!

    Monday, 18 January 2010 07:32 AM

Pasting posters during election is banned

    Monday, 18 January 2010 07:43 AM

President should resign for running a country like this. If he cannot discipline the country to hold a free election, how should we trust this administration ??? DISGRACE !!!!

    Monday, 18 January 2010 07:50 AM

Now who's going to crossover ?????
