Speeding bus drivers never travel on the lane, they go in the middle of the road. Policemen are always there for 'hira capuwa' and put something in their pocket (Few honestly fine). However both are not at the right place and right time for such a thing to happen. This is called dishonesty for their call of duty, both will pay their price.

What is really interesting to note these days is the way CTB drivers drive. They act like the politicos and violate all the road rules, cut across others and still get away.

Incidentally, I was travelling on the high level road in Kosgama, when a CTB bus overtook 05 vehicles in a row across double-lines in the centre of the road. There were two cops stationed there to catch any violators, but they just waited as if they didn't see it... its amazing where we have come to...

I was doing 40 MPH in the 30 MPH zone, lost 3 points on my license, have to attend 3 day special driving class, and my car insurance have gone up by 25 pounds extra a month for next one year.....all this is for driving just 10 MPH more.....its time for GOSL to apply strict driving rules as in western countires...this will save some innocent lifes killed by killer drivers!!!!

The bus driver will accept the fault in the courts and will be fined 5000 Rupees. That's it

All the above comments are correct but everyone forget one thing that is condition level of the roads in SL.I think our roads also not proper by size, condition, etc.

    NAK Thursday, 13 January 2011 06:03 AM

Looks like both drivers have fallen asleep at 3.50 am. Otherwise both vehicles should have their head lights blaring at each other. Very unfortunate.

    Rohan Thursday, 13 January 2011 02:47 AM

Really don't understand why police and other authories can't be strick with these bus drivers!

    Mohamed Thursday, 13 January 2011 05:50 AM

How do we know that this time it is not the Bus driver at fault? Maybe, it was the van driver who may have been at fault. Remember they were returning after attending a funeral. All in all both were to be blamed for being careless.

Why a Bus from Walasmulla, heading to Colombo has taken the Colombo Avissawella road? Any compulasry diversion? Also we should ban early hours driving unless with a valid reason. Naturally very early hours are meant for sleep. When human transgress the nature'd structure, calamities are inevitable.

knight rider Thursday, 13 January 2011 05:18 AM

we needs night police patrol cars since these are very dangerous highways as most Van & bus drivers take very high risks on them.

    sudu Thursday, 13 January 2011 03:32 AM

All road rules are only for the books. Bus owner must be a police officer. Therefore rules are not followed.

Just Another Citizen Thursday, 13 January 2011 03:18 AM

What happened to all the laws that were supposed to be implemented? They can have speed limiters installed in buses and they should also carry out road worthiness tests on all vehicles, a Green Test is not the only thing. And you sometimes wonder how some vehicles on our roads actually pass this test.

Also over crowding, not wearing seat belts, and overall public ignorance adds to all these mishaps.

    Tee Thursday, 13 January 2011 03:11 AM

    Excellent driving!
