A body of a man has been found hanging on a tree at a cemetery in the Ballawidda tank in Giradurukotte just minutes after he was allegedly abused at the police station, according to his relatives.

Minutes before his death, the farmer, identified as Sarath Premathilaka (30) had gone to the Giradurukotte police station and had been allegedly beaten and forced to kneel down by the police. He was later released, his relatives claimed.

His relatives added that Premathilaka had no reason to hang himself. His brother, Saman Kumara, said that is brother had called and informed him that the police had beaten him.

We have barbaric Police Force in Sri Lanka. It is an institution that tortures citizens. It tarnishes the name of our country. Please fix it. Enough is enough.
