A police constable from the Anuradhapura police was taken into custody on suspicion for the theft of cash, ATM cards, and cellular phones of fellow officers.

He was taken into custody during inquiries into a complaint by a police constable whose ATM card and the purse containing cash had been stolen.

Inquiries revealed that the suspect had withdrawn Rs.5000 from the complainant’s account by using the ATM card. During the inquiries the suspect admitted his responsibility for several similar incidents. He was a resident of Megodawewa in Galenbindunuwewa who joined the police department about two years ago.  Meanwhile, the officers of Anuradhapura police expressed concerned about an attempt of a prominent politician of the area to prevent action against the suspect.
