Venerable Ududumbara Kashapa Thera has called off the fast unto death protest that started yesterday demanding that the proposed agreement with Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) be cancelled.
The Venerable Thera called off the death fast on the request of New Democratic Front (NDF) presidential candidate Sajith Premadasa.
In a letter to the Venerable Thera, Premadasa had assured that the MCC would not be signed whatsoever until November 16.
“We will not get into any international treaty which could be harmful to Sri Lanka with any other country,” he said in his letter.
He said such an agreement if ever would not be signed with the MCC without a proper debate and discussions on it in and outside parliament.
He said the final decision on it would be made only after a discussion with the Mahasangha. (Yohan Perera)
