Passing away of Venerable Bellanwila Wimalarathana Thera will surely open the eyes of the society to stop animal cruelty by keeping them chained to huge trees.

    Gayan Saturday, 03 February 2018 01:52 PM

Dont bring your politics to this sad situation.

lakshman Maddumahewa Saturday, 03 February 2018 03:23 PM

I agreed what the Daham said.

    Senannayake Saturday, 03 February 2018 09:22 PM

Gayan what does Politics have to do with the cruel practice of chaining an elephant to a tree? This has nothing to do with Politics

    G D Saturday, 03 February 2018 09:29 PM

Sorry Gayan, This has nothing to do with politics. The Thera was a good influence on all and it is a pity that he had to be attacked by the temple elephant. Let this be the begining of the end to a cruel practice of chaining animals.

    GH Saturday, 03 February 2018 11:28 PM

Animal cruelty is nothing to do with politics, it is an absolute FACT! What is said by Mr. Daham is ACCURATE!

    sasindu Saturday, 03 February 2018 01:29 PM

    Dils Sunday, 04 February 2018 04:04 AM

    Who do we vote for

    Senanayake Saturday, 03 February 2018 01:53 PM

The results of animal cruelty! Chaining a wild animal for pomp and pageantry is not the way of the Buddha. Let them live freely.

    Manoratna Saturday, 03 February 2018 04:37 PM

And get killed by gun shots .. falling into wells or eating hakkapatas

    Janaka Saturday, 03 February 2018 02:01 PM

That elephant, dumb as he is, has sent out a firm message that animals are also entitled to their freedom.Animals should be free in the wild not torchured in temples.Janaka

    Hema Saturday, 03 February 2018 05:05 PM

    athiru Monday, 05 February 2018 08:12 AM

Hi Ananda, are you sure he would attain supreme nirwana; when he is responsible for causing misery to a poor elephant by chaining to a tree when it should be leading a carefree life in the jungle, its true home?

    Suni Saturday, 03 February 2018 02:32 PM

    I agree with Daham 100%

    Suhada Saturday, 03 February 2018 02:37 PM

    Ajja Saturday, 03 February 2018 03:46 PM

Releasing Elephants will surely not solve animal cruelty .The very people who talk of animal cruelty are good animal flesh eaters.

    Irene Saturday, 03 February 2018 04:29 PM

Our heartfelt condolences on the demise of Venerable thero! May thero attain eternal peace! Please let the elephants have their own freedom in the jungles. No one likes to be a prisoner. They try to show it by their actions because they cannot talk. It’s high time to give them their own rights!Thank you.

    Manoratna Saturday, 03 February 2018 04:45 PM

Now the people who are sad can realize how I felt when the harmless and helpless dogs in front of the Sri Jayawardenepura where killed by poisoning. The resul Can fast and crisp.

    Iqbal Saturday, 03 February 2018 06:47 PM

He was one of the forthright Buddhist religious leader and always in the front when it comes to promoting ethnic harmony. His passing away surely will be felt among all peace loving citizens.

A GREAT LOSS FOR THE COUNTRY.

    Ahmed Saturday, 03 February 2018 08:10 PM

This is not the time to pin point about Animal rights. It is also important but now when such an important and respectable person has passed away we have to show our condolences as it is a great loss for the country. He was a great man who was against racism. The problem with our people is that they don’t know where to talk what. Let’s Change

    Yeti Saturday, 03 February 2018 08:32 PM

It is indeed sad news. May he attain Nibbana. Passing away of the Ven. Thera is also an eye opener to temple authorities that hold these majestic animals in chains depriving them of their freedom to roam their habitat!

    Ranjan Sunday, 04 February 2018 09:07 AM

RIP..! So do v have a National holiday tom.?? ;)

    Palugaswewa Sunday, 04 February 2018 12:11 PM

According to eyewitnesses TheThera was attacked ( partially trampled) by the elephant. This is the truth. But I do not understand why all these monks where never at the scene (even the late Thera) try to cover up the truth. Is it that they think it is a shame to say that he died due to an attack by his own elephant?

    Ben Sunday, 04 February 2018 12:17 PM

Elephant may have suspected some evil going happen to him.Remmeber we had politicians some time back wanted to destroy a certain number of elephants to win over the elephant symbol party

Wijitha Senadeera Sunday, 04 February 2018 01:01 PM

Time to release all domesticated elephants to the wild or sanctuaries, Real Buddhist must not use domesticated animal for any kind of religious activities. If Buddha live today , he will be the 1st person to ban this actives. Most SLankan Buddhist are ignorant and arrogant . Please note I am Sinhalese- Buddhist ,

    Almeda Monday, 05 February 2018 11:09 AM
