The United National Party (UNP) today teamed up with the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) to launch a joint struggle against what they called ‘witch-hunt of opposition MPs’.

UNP MP and party General Secretary Akila Viraj Kariyawasam, MPs Ajith P. Perera, Ravi Karunanayake, Eran Wickramaratne, Karu Paranawithana, Hirunika Premachandra, Ravinda Samaraweera together with TNA MP M. A Sumanthiran announced the decision to form it at a media conference held at Sirikotha today.

Mr. Kariyawasam said they had already begun making arrangements to launch a common struggle. “We will go from village to village to inform them about the arrest of opposition MPs,” he said.

He said it was formed since MP Rajitha Senaratne was facing imminent arrest while MP Patali Champika Ranawaka had already been arrested and given bail.

“The fear psychosis which existed before 2015 has re-emerged. Many disappeared without a trace at that time," Mr. Kariyawasam added. (Yohan Perera)

The present day U N P is loosing it's vote base in the south very rapidly. The end result will be that majority of the present U N P politikkas will have to retire from politics and stay at home or end up in jail on corruption charges. No wonder these politikkas are teaming up with the terrorist sponsored politikkas from the north for their survival

    Sajith Friday, 27 December 2019 08:07 AM

Fear psychosis before 2015? And what did you do about it? Was anyone arrested or jailed? Was there any investigation? The only "fear psychosis" the people felt was what your UNP created back in 2002 by capitulated to the LTTE with the excuse of annihilation if the LTTE did not get their way. Then there is the fear psychosis you created after April 2019. Besides you lot are being investigated for your crimes, why are you so upset? Isn't that what you did when you were in power? Why are you in fear if you have not done anything wrong? Go from village to village? No on cares, people in the villages are the ones who want you jailed for your crimes. Only people "in fear" are your yahapalanya criminals worried about answering for you crimes.

It is a historical conclusion UNP TNA alliance is root causes of many problems in our motherland. A party vehemently demanded seperation and recognized LTTE as sole representatives of Tamil people supported Yahapalanaya government.UNP lost election because of their alignment with TNA.Dr.Rajitha and Champika matters have to be handled at courts.Of course Rajitha crocodile tale has to be explored further.

    ram Friday, 27 December 2019 09:27 AM

why did then UNP prosecute those involved those crimes

Nish Navaratne Friday, 27 December 2019 11:26 AM

Also ask Saharan and ISIS to join and that will complete the picture.

    VJ Friday, 27 December 2019 09:58 PM

Sri Lankan people got a government they deserve.

    UNPer Saturday, 28 December 2019 06:12 PM

This alignment with the TNA is done with a motive as the present leadership of the UNP wants to weaken Sajith's battle at the next Gen.Elections so that the Govt. will get the 2/3rd majority they are seeking. As a reward Ranil will be saved from the Bond Scam issue
