The United National Party (UNP) extends an invitation to the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) to join the new alliance led by Sajith Premadasa and contest the upcoming parliamentary elections, UNP MP Harshana Rajakaruna said yesterday.

Addressing a news briefing, he said it was sad that how the SLFP members were ill-treated by the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) members.

“The mistake done by the SLFP was their decision not to render their support to Sajith Premadasa at the presidential election,” the MP said.

He said people had given little prominence to the SLFP for their affiliation to SLPP. Hence, we invite them to join our new alliance.

“SLPP had earlier promised that they would give 30 per cent of the seats to the SLFP when giving nominations but now they have refused to do so,” MP Rajakaruna added. We would like to welcome them warmly if they accept out invitation. We are sorry to see how the SLFP is going behind SLPP in this manner,”

“Therefore, we invite the SLFP to join the UNP new alliance to contest for the upcoming parliamentary election,” the MP added.

Meanwhile, he said the final decision as to how the United National Party (UNP) should contest the upcoming parliamentary election, should be taken today, UNP MP Harshana Rajakaruna said. (Sheain Fernandopulle)
