UNF leaders will meet Speaker Karu Jayasuriya shortly to discuss the steps that should be taken against the remanding of MP Patali Champika Ranwaka, UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe said yesterday.

He said this when speaking to journalists after visiting MP Ranawaka who is in remand custody.

“There is no fresh evidence to re-commence investigations or to arrest Mr. Ranawaka,” Mr. Wickremesinghe said. “The UNP is saddened by his arrest which is clearly a political witch-hunt as procedures that has to be followed when arresting an MP had not been followed."

He said one could clearly see a government which pledged to build a nation which respects law and order trying to fulfil its political needs by violating law and order.

MP and TPA Leader Mano Ganesan who also accompanied Mr. Wickremesinghe said the UNF would fight victimisation without fear.

When asked whether the UNF government had not engaged in political victimisation during its tenure, Mr Ganesan said the real issue is that the previous government did not arrest the politicians who faced charges. (Yohan Perera)

MP Patali seriously injured an individual in a motor vehicle accident. The UNP should stop trying to influence the judiciary and let due process take place!
