Two youths, who were arrested for allegedly taking photos on top of one of the retinue Cheithiyas in Mihintale yesterday, were remanded until February 21, police said.

They were arrested by the by Archaeological Department officers.

Police said the two youths aged 18 and 20 , who are residents of Muthur, are studying at an Arabic language learning centre at Nittambuwa. (Upali Ananda)

All concerned need to understand under what context this has happened. Making conclusions that it is a sacrilege for any other religion to climb this cheithiya in mistake is not going to help this country towards a Sri Lankan identity. Places where persons are not allowed to walk inside need to be secured with gates with a clear notice. This is simply Sinhalese mania and exhibits the ignorance of that race.

I wonder what purpose it serves stating the exact name of the school these students are studying. As if that had any connection at all to their 'crime'. Also i have never seen any other article mention the school name or workplace of anyone arrested. In most cases it would be something like '...from a popular school in colombo' etc.

@ salman,great you accept words used,seems to be your religion won't taught you to' love thy neighbor' but scare him, manhandle him or even kill him if he is not someone among you ,so that teaching only fit to barbarians, not to civilized society , where we should allow room for others who are not ready to follow our ideas only,but in middle east they are killing each other for no reason
