Two suspects had been taken into custody by the Navy attached to the Northwestern Naval Command at the Kandakkuliya, Kalpitiya, while attempting to smuggle out gold weighing 7kg worth approximately Rs. 50 million, Navy Media Spokesman Commander Dinesh Bandara said.
The Navy had seized a dinghy used to smuggle the gold around 7 p.m. yesterday with the suspects scheduled to travel to India following a tip-off.
The suspects, along seized items, were handed over to the Customs Office in Sinnapadu for further investigations. (T.K.G Kapila)
