Former Sports Minister Harin Fernando has criticized the authorities for questioning cricketers based on an ‘unreliable’ statement.

“This madness has to stop, These Cricketers are our pride. We must be the first country to question all players over an unreliable statement which is clearly aimed at diverting public attention from the real issues public facing. Shame,” he tweeted.

“Keep politics aside, I urge all sports fans to speak against this drama of insulting our cricketing greats,” he also stated.

So far, Special Investigative Unit (SIU) attached to the Ministry of Sports has recorded statement from former Selection Committee Chairman Aravinda de Silva and cricketer Upul Tharanga over match fixing allegations made by former minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage.

Agree completely. Aluthgamage is the one who should be questioned and made to prove his claims. Our police act like puppets

These are election tactics to force some of the prominent cricketers to support somebody.

Mahindananda Aluthgamage, was the cause of match fixing, has not received what he thinks a fair share of stake being the Minster of Sports during that time, so he wants to gain mileage during elections showing he is clean, dirty politicians stink

This is a political game, why this case was not express 9 years ago, still no proper evidence submitted to CID. All these are just a wast our times and days.. Bull-shit

If the complaint came from England or Australia then we need to worry about it. It is cheap publicity stunt and to throw mud on our respected players.

This is the result for opposing Homagama Stadium by our retired star cricketers. all must vote to defeat this cult

Well said Harin Ferenando, the Cricketers are our Pride. This political drama must stop, just because of a unreliable statement made by a unreliable, untrustworthy former minister Aluthgamage, Dont Disgrace our Hero's. It's upto the relevant authorities to bring to Jutice Aluthgamage ,and question him. Wonder if he ever be True, very unlikely his reputation is such.
