National Election Commission Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya today requested all parties not to politicise or seek political gains from the COVID-19 relief distribution.
In a statement, Mr. Deshapriya said it has been noted that a handful of politicians from among those distribute relief had resorted to social media to seek political gains from the relief distribution.
"It is praiseworthy and commendable the efforts of various stakeholders of the society including religious leaders, business community, political parties, civil society organisations and others coming forward to provide relief to those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. However, it is unacceptable to seek political mileage out of the current situation when the entire country is fighting to defeat a virus," he said.
Therefore, he requested everyone to do away with political propaganda and to fight to defeat the COVID-19.

One political party supporters were seen in curfew period sticking bills showing Hand Symbol and a Cross against it. This was in the north. The EC was correct.

What is the point in him just repeating the same thing. He should use the powers vested in him and take stern action against those who use Corona for political gains.
The EC must send this message to Rajapaske group because they are doing a publicity campaign using Corona and they want to somehow hold the elections. this is their main aim.

Will he dare say anything against the UNP/SJB who are the ones that are trying to make political capital out of the situation? Will he dare say anything against Sajith for spreading lies, Rauf Hakeem for spreading religious/racial hate or is he too afraid of getting his funding cut off and being in the "bad books" of his benefactors?
