Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Ambassador Alice Wells said there were growing concerns over standards be it Sri Lanka or Malaysia.

Ambassador Wells also said it was insufficient to just build up with the projects if the projects were not economically effective.

"Whether it is Sri Lanka or Malaysia, there are growing concerns over standards. It is not enough just to build projects if the projects are not economically effective," she added.

" it was insufficient to just build up with the projects if the projects were not economically effective" How effective were your projects in Iraq ( 1 macain to millions in Iraq), same with Afganistan (3000 due to terrorists - as you'll say) as against million s in Afganistan. (I can go on with your Naplans in Vietnam etc etc ).

Hello Alice, could you please highlight the fact that President does not adhere to any policy standards.

    Politico Saturday, 15 September 2018 01:53 PM

In SL, presidents , Sinhala politicians are involved in non viable projects in their own constituency to please the masses in order to stay in power for life. There was no need for a harbour in Hambantota nor an international airport in Mattala. Galle harbour is a stone throw away from Hambantota. Galle harbour could have been developed more.Is there an international airport needed in Hingurangoda ? Certainly not .So why the hell it's proposed for what.Instead develop Palaly airport into an international airport which will be more useful for the people. Where are the brains ?

The Chinese company, selected to carry out the Gin Nilwala Project, has complained to President Maithripala Sirisena that a leading politician and a top official have attempted to solicit bribe to grant approval to carry out the work.It is a multi-sector development project aimed at providing drinking water, address irrigation needs and improve the existing irrigation systems and is also expected to generate electricity and provide drinking water to the Hambantota district.http://www.dailymirror.lk/article/Gin-Nilwala-Project-Politico-seeking-bribe-Chinese-Co-tells-Prez-155526.htmlTHIS IS OUR STANDARD!

" growing concerns over standards be it Sri Lanka or Malaysia." - As the other Alice will say -> “Which way you ought to go depends on where you want to get to...” ― Lewis Carroll, Alice in Wonderland"

No matter which way you go the standards will be the same in sri lanka

    CITIZEN Saturday, 15 September 2018 05:20 PM

Madam Alice, you are perhaps in Wonderland! You will learn more if you stay longer our standards and norms! Wish you a pleasant stay.

This woman is able to make such an arrogant statement is because they already have their agents operating in our country on their behalf. If you don’t believe me, just see the many “thumbs down” there are, whenever any comment criticising the West appears in the DM. I think it is the work of some Sri Lankan Christians working for their white masters. We can not simply ignore this group of traitors in our midst.

    Ruwan Sunday, 16 September 2018 08:57 PM

Ganesh is absolutely right, look at the thumbs down for criticising the West. Who is doing this ?

One needs to know that Sri Lanka has its national Sri Lanka Standards Organisation (SLSI) which has formulated thousands of Standards based on International Standards (ISO Geneva) and is continuing, producing standards in the country. If stanards are not prepared yet in any field, Sri Lanka is guided nationally, by the ISO standards. So, Standards are not a problem, it is the implementation of the Standards can cause unexpected problems, if not carefully observed. So, everybody should focuss on the correct implementation of the existing standards, for the projects to be effective. Malaysia also have a very active national standards organization, engaged in the preparation and implementation of standards in Malaysia.

YES also STANDARDS of communication and BEHAVIOUR are needed MADAM. YOUR PRESIDENT SETS an excellent standard of respect and dignity for everyone around the world with his ignorant, racist, hateful LIES and utter lack of conduct standards. What about corruption, lack of ethics and also family bandyism in USA? Is that a great standard for us to follow?

    JJSmyle Saturday, 15 September 2018 07:06 PM

She should explain our American GAO discovery of the total waste of billions of dollars in Iraq and Afghanistan on "standards" and projects with lots of money siphoned off to corrupt local and white american companies too. This woman is excited about her new posting wants to lecture to little brown people.

    MaryNoll Saturday, 15 September 2018 07:09 PM

The United States has now spent more money reconstructing Afghanistan than it did rebuilding Europe at the end of World War II, according to a government watchdog. The Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR) said in a statement to Congress last week that when adjusted for inflation the $113.1 billion plowed into the chaos-riven country outstripped the post-WWII spend by at least $10 billion.Billions have been squandered on projects that were either useless or sub-standard, or lost to waste, corruption, and systemic abuse, according to SIGAR's reports.Example G222 aircraft were shredded into scrap at Kabul International Airport in 2014. The U.S. spent $486 million for 20 of the "deathtrap" planes, 16 of which were later sold as scrap for a total of just $32,000. STANDARDS ALICE? STANDARDS ALICE?

    observer Saturday, 15 September 2018 07:25 PM

    Very true !!!.

    Tinkiriya Saturday, 15 September 2018 08:50 PM

Ms Wells, quality and standards are maintained only if a country has leaders who are honest, accountable, respectable and panache. We have drug tycoons, mafia bosses, underworld assassins, murderers, forgers, smugglers, criminals, chain snatchers, rapist, adulterers as our politicians. what "quality" can we expect?

    sach Saturday, 15 September 2018 10:34 PM

John Perkin's confessions of an economic hitman should be made a school text book in this country. The level of loyalty to the west is amazing.

    pohottumaama Sunday, 16 September 2018 07:20 AM

Standards of the KIRI PACKET were a major concern for us at SLPP
