STF seizes 30,000 litres of artificial toddy

One suspect was arrested by the Police Special Task Force with 30,000 litres of artificially brewed toddy when they raided an illicit distillery at Maravila.

The STF on a tip-off raided the illicit distillery operated in a warehouse at Keena Kele Watta in Maravila on Tuesday.

Investigation revealed that toddy which had been stored in the warehouse exceeded the approved limit.

The STF said the arrested suspect, aged 60 and a resident of Katuneriya was handed over to the Maravila Excise Department officials along with the contraband.

The STF team led by CI Nadeeka Silva carried out the raid on the directions of STF Commandant, Senior DIG M.R. Latheef. (Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)
