United National Party (UNP) MP Hector Appuhamy, at a press conference yesterday, suggested that SLPP candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa should publish his medical certificate while stating that its candidate Sajith Premadasa would do the same.
The MP said this would enable the people to judge which candidate is physically fit.
“I am responding to a recent statement made by Joint Opposition MP Udaya Gammanpila that Mr. Premadasa is not physically fit to run the country.
The MP also said that some SLFPers will join the UNF alliance’s candidate Sajith Premadasa together with former President Chandrika Kumaratunga when she returns to the island shortly. He further said some SLFPers sabotaged State programmes when they were part of the government, together with President Maithripala Sirisena.
When Mr. Appuhamy was asked how the UNP could request the SLFP to support its candidate if the SLFP had sabotaged Government programmes during the past, he said the UNP is only inviting genuine persons and not the ones who put the government off the track. (Yohan Perera)
