The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) today decided to support President Gotabaya Rajapaksa at the upcoming parliamentary election to secure a two-thirds majority in parliament, SLFP Spokesman MP Weerakumara Dissanayake said.
Speaking to Daily Mirror, the MP said this decision was made at the SLFP Central Committee meeting held today with the unanimous consent of the SLFP members.
“We will be working towards supporting President Rajapaksa to obtain a two-thirds majority in Parliament,” he said.
According to the current composition in Parliament, the ruling party of UPFA has only 95 seats while the United National Party is equipped with 106 seats.
Moreover, Ilankai Tamil Arasu Kadchi, JVP, Eelam People's Democratic Party and Sri Lanka Muslim Congress have secured 16, 06, 01 and 01 seats in parliament respectively. (Sheain Fernandopulle)
