UPFA General Secretary Minister Mahinda Amaraweera today said the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) which convened today, decided not to contest upcoming elections together with the United National Party (UNP).
The SLFP today convened under the leadership of party Chairman, President Maithripala Sirisena at the Presidential Secretariat.
Though the SLFP formed a coalition government with the UNP, it had never contested elections together with the UNP.
Meanwhile, SLFP General Secretary Minister Duminda Dissanayake also confirmed the decision to media.

Most probably most of the people may have misunderstood when leader of Democratic National Movement-DNM announce that he is negotiating with SLFP to contest together in his district. Though DNM aligned with UNP on last election they may have change their stand now. This is how Srilankan politicians twist their words and fool majority. We need to closely look what they say and do.

These fellows are cheating the voters. Soon after getting anti UNP votes at at he election ,they will get together with UNP to come in to the power.

JO will capture the seats. UNP will come second with minority votes. SLFP will attain third place. Voters are disgusted with SLFP and UNP. Think twice before filing nominations.

The end of a great party that was lead by the super leaders of the calibre of Sirimavo and Mahinda. We don't love SLFP, but in a multi-party democratic system, they always played an important role. Mahinda needs to take the reigns.

UNP is the grand old party which can govern the country without the support of any other party unlike SLFP which has never formed a government on their own. There was the blunder where demon Pirabaharan made by failing to realise the bitter truth and grasped the hands of UNP under liberal Ranil Wickramasinghe ,when there was ample opportunities to have better deal without much of pain for the vexed problems the we all face now .
