Sithum Alahapperuma, the 22-year-old Police Constable attached to the State Intelligence Services (SIS), who died following an accident in Bambalapitiya on June 11, has been promoted to the rank of Sergeant by Acting IGP C.D. Wickramarathna today.

Alahapperuma died on Sunday morning while receiving treatment at the ICU of the National Hospital following the road accident in Bambalapitiya.

He foiled the recent robbery at the National Hospital where cash worth over Rs 7.9 million was robbed at gunpoint from the cashier on June 9.

Two police constables attached to the SIS including Alahapperuma, who were on duty at the hospital, pursued the robber and made the arrest. (Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)

What's the use? A good officer gone for ever due to a reckless Moran in a defender

More appropriate if he would have promoted while living. Pls consider the other two police cops.

He is no doubt a brave young man. But how come the National Intelligence Service employs Police Constables in its ranks as Intelligence gathering is a serious business, secondly why an Intelligence operative put on static guard duties at the hospital, and thirdly is there any inquiry going on on the hunch that he could have been murdered in the hospital while undergoing treatment.

WHY YOU DIDN'T MENTION ANYTHING ABOUT THE PERSON WHO MADE THE ACCIDENT? YOU ARE AFRAID OF RATWATTE MAFIA'S?
