The hearing of the Fundamental Rights (FR) Petitions filed against the dissolution of parliament commenced for the second day today in the Supreme Court a short while ago.

The seven-Judge bench of the Supreme Court commenced hearing of the petitions yesterday.

During today’s hearing, the Attorney General made submissions to the Judge bench.

The Supreme Court on November 13 granted leave to proceed with the fundamental rights petitions which sought a court order nullifying the presidential proclamation dissolving parliament and the petitions were fixed for argument on December 4, 5 and 6.

The Chief Justice nominated a fuller Bench comprising Chief Justice Nalin Perera, Justices Buwaneka Aluwihare, Sisira J. de Abrew, Priyantha Jayawardena, Prasanna S. Jayawardena, Vijith K. Malalgoda and Murdu Fernando of the Supreme Court to hear the fundamental rights petitions following a request made by the government.

The importance now lies not in the decisions of the Supreme Court or Appeal Court nor who becomes the PM, but the abolishment of the post of President specifically due to maniacs like Yakko Sirisena obtaining those positions and desecrating them.

Appeal to MS,MR and RW to declare the General Election in the 1st quarter of 2019 and end this crisis. Parliament is playing with us the Public. We want this Election to appoint proper Representatives at the earliest who love the Country and not self.

    RR Wednesday, 05 December 2018 01:07 PM

It's the president who's playing with his crazy decisions against the constitution. We need a presidential election first.

    Chryshan K Wednesday, 05 December 2018 03:02 PM

Oh you too are a part of MR and robbing clan. Majority of people wanted them out of power for 5 years. So let the law and order hold that people's wish and their vote.

    bo Wednesday, 05 December 2018 03:06 PM

well said Chari. If Ranil thinks people are behind him, then he has no reason to object to elections or to face the public now. I think everyone else is ready to face the election except Ranil. His 20 previous failures may be haunting him poor guy.

I am very sorry to say that the media still call them p rime minister and minister after the court gave stay order.

    Cloud Wednesday, 05 December 2018 11:04 AM

The order only suspended or restricted the PM and Ministers from functioning. The order did not remove them anyone from their posts. So they can be called PM and Ministers. Simply put, the posts are are but they can't function.

    Machan Wednesday, 05 December 2018 03:08 PM

Though many will disagree, what cloud say is true. Post remains while functioning has been temporarily stopped. Confusing but that's the situation.

    RK Wednesday, 05 December 2018 11:53 AM

If he can't function as the PM, then how can he be called the PM?

    XYZ Wednesday, 05 December 2018 12:54 PM

Hypothetically, if the PM is locked in a room; he can't function but he is still the PM isn't he?

Senior Cotizen Wednesday, 05 December 2018 01:00 PM

Can someone please provide on this site a link to the CA ruling to facilitate reading of the full text of the interim judgement. Thanks

Gangsters create an issue. And when failed in the attempt now say General Election is the only answer. They can say so to baiyas.Should not give in to these schemers. . The 26/9 Govt. is entitled to go for it's full term. We will then decide what to do.' It is how a Parliamentary Democracy works.
