The government should arrest former Minister Rishad Bathiudeen as those in the present regime made many accusations against him during the presidential election, UNP MP Hirunika Premachandra said yesterday.

She told a press conference that it is Mr. Bathiudeen who should be arrested as allegations were against him by those in the present government. “Those in this government alleged that Mr. Bathiudeen destroyed Wilpattu National Park and cleared the forests. Therefore, we wonder why they are not arresting him,” Ms. Premachandra said.

“Those in the previous regime never talked of Dr. Rajitha Senaratne or MP Patali Champika Ranawaka but about Mr. Bathiudeen,” she added.

“Mr. Bathiudeen will never be arrested as many who issued gazette notifications on Willpattu and others who were involved will be exposed then,” she further said.

Ms. Premachandra said no criminal case can be filed against Dr. Senaratne if the charge is insulting the rulers by getting two persons to say at a press conference that they drive white vans which abducted persons prior to 2015.

She said Dr. Senaratne organised the media conference following the request made by the two persons involved. (Yohan Perera)

Dont hurry for such statements because this government took lots of unexpected decisions for the favor of the country. What you now tell can be a mockery in future once unexpected arrest of RB.

" if the charge is insulting the rulers" at the time of the said incident, GOTA was just a citizen like any other sri lankan and was not a ruler i.e. president. HE (GOTA) can file a defamation case against Dr. Senaratne , but this action is high handed and he is using his powers which he acquired after the incident to suppress his opponents. I hope DN will publish this without ant fear.

If Justice, rule of law and politics were a fair game everything will be for the greatness of society with good governance to a civilized society. For Sri Lanka that is a far fetched dream, it is the survival of the fittest, mightiest, loudest, and maybe even corrupt and this is the just society we know of now, perhaps there will be a day when it changes, but for that, I guess the old politicians should be gone for good for any new changes to happen.
