Clearly, the government servants are not looking after the people. How many Ombudsman the country needs to hear the complaints of 22 million people? Obviously, limited resources but too many people, therefore people will cheat, this is inevitable. Proper family planning according to their incomes will help. Children are learning to cheat at schools, because the schools teachers cheat at schools to make extra money at tuitions. Teachers should teach children how important being honest by teaching properly during the school hours. In South Asia cheating inbuilt automatically during the school life. Plus people are encouraged to have more children in the name of democracy and religious freedom, at the same time asking them not to cheat is unrealistic. Fixing Sri Lanka will take generations, President can't fix it by appointing an Ombudsman. It is still better than nothing, but the President should not expect a miracle.

It is a very good move by the president as not only government institutions even private institutions do not abide by the law . Appointing an individual of Mr Wikramasinghe's nature will definitely help the public .

Hope it will work. We consider every MP, Minister, head of government office, ministry secretaries, heads of state ie. President and PM are as people's ombudsmen. They are elected by us to attend to our problems. Leaving aside all these 225 MPs PM and President now we have one new person appointed as Ombudsman for the whole nation! Will that work?

What is the point? There is a facility called "Tell the President" and this service is supposed to give solutions to any issue straightaway. I know one person who submitted his grievances last December but nothing happened so far.

    CONTROL Saturday, 13 June 2020 10:41 AM

We do not NEED ombudsmans' if the LEGAL system is functioning efficiently. Truthfully there is no law and order in the country due to the corrupt legal system which is CONTROLLED BY THE POLITICIANS.

Aiyo Sirisena Saturday, 13 June 2020 01:30 PM

Former President Maithripala Sirisena too when completing one year in office, I think, gave publicity to a project asking people to bring to his notice of any grievances or complaints they had. Email address was also given and I promptly wrote to him.Throughout his remaining period in office I never received any sort of response whatever and I happened to be the fool.

Well said Nalin , the president has chosen the best office for the job , Appointing a officer like Mr Wikramasinghe's nature will definitely help the public
