While stating that there was no legal confirmation on the death of underworld figure Chandana Lasantha Perera alias ‘Angoda Lokka as reported in media, police said today that it may be his ploy to return to the country in disguise or flee to another country.
Police Spokesman Jaliya Senaratna said despite rumors that ‘Angoda Lokka’ was killed, no legal information has been reported to the police.
“The Police also have focused on the possibility that at some point he might change his appearance to return to Sri Lanka to commit crimes or to go to another country and continue to remain in hiding,” he said.
He said Lasantha Perera was a wanted suspect and they received information that he had gone abroad.
According to the unofficial report, Angoda Lokka has reportedly been killed by poisoning in India in early July.
“It was reported that brainwashed Mulleriyawe Raththaran’s wife, who was living with Angoda Lokka in India and convinced her to poison him on July 3,” Police sources said.
The Spokesman said that attention had been drawn to this information and steps had already been taken to obtain official reports confirming this information.
“If we have the opportunity to prove scientifically that he is dead, we will take further action on the ongoing cases against him,” he said.(Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)
