Director General of Health Services, Dr Anil Jasinghe, has informed Transport Minister Mahinda Amaraweera not to facilitate public transport for regular passengers for another two weeks.
The directive was given considering the fact that regular passengers might rush to use public transport services once the curfew is lifted.
However, public transport modes including buses and trains will be provided for employees of public and private sectors, who are required to report to work from tomorrow.

We understood this advice is to minimize Covid19 spread. But this decision will be hit public transport commuters. However private lite vehicle users are enjoying. Government have to regulate to maintaining social distancing inside the Buses and Trains. Ticket fare also could be increase by 25%. Otherwise transport will be faced serious consequences

Private companies must provide their vehicles to transport their employees after disinfection as a safety measure. But Public and Private transports cannot be expected that they will disinfect their vehicles on regular intervals.
