Water cannons and tear gas had to be used to disperse a group of protesting teachers and principals in front of the Ministry of Education in Battaramulla a short while ago, the Police said.
They said the traffic had been blocked both ways on the road in front of the Ministry (D P Wijesinghe Mawatha). Motorists are advised to use alternative routes to avoid traffic congestion.
The protest, launched by the Ceylon Teachers Services Union (CTSU) and the Principal Services Union in front of the Ministry of Education (MoE) in Battaramulla this morning, demanded the Government to clear salary anomalies and to pay the arrears.
