President Maithripala Sirisena is expected to swear in 28 members of the Cabinet today, government sources said yesterday.
It was reported that the UNP has sent in 36 names to the President to be appointed as Ministers and that he had struck off eight of them.
President has omitted the names of Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka and Palitha Range Bandara from the UNP while he had also omitted the names of A. H. M. Fowzie, Lakshman Seneviratne, Wijith Wijemuni de Soysa and Piyasena Gamage who crossed over to the government from the SLFP.
It is likely that Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe will be sworn in as Minister of Economic Policies and Development Strategies, Mangala Samaraweera as Minister of Finance and Media, Ravi Karunanayake as Minister of Power and Energy and Sagala Ratnayake as Minister of Ports and Shipping.
Dr. Rajitha Senaratne is expected to be sworn in as Minister of Health, and Patali Champika Ranawaka as Minister of Megapolis and Western Region Development.
Meanwhile, President Sirisena had a discussion with Prime Minister Wickremesinghe at his official residence on the appointment of the new Cabinet last evening. MPs Dr. Rajitha Senaratne, Ranjith Madduma Bandara and Navin Dissanayake had participated in this discussion according to informed sources. Yes. We, 6.2 million voted you in and you have NO moral or any other right to talk MPs appointed by those who voted against you and decide how to appoint cabinet or run the country. If you say those who left UPFA must not be given appointment, then as a person who left UPFA, what right do you have to hold your office?

This is preposterous! This man is rejecting the MP's people have selected to represent them. All of them have the right to hold a ministerial post as well unless the courts debar them from holding any office.

Admire the courage of appointing Rajitha as Health Minister.Not because I am admirer of Rajitha, but the Principal that a Trade Union has no business to dictate who should be the Minister for their Industry.Specially in the circumstances that the Doctors have behaved as Politicians and the GMOA has shown that they are all Politicians who are only greedy for their own well being, nothing w.r.t. the very persons off whose misfortunes they are expected to earn a living, but continue to indulge instead at Tax Payers expense and without any care for the Patients who visit the Govt. Hospitals.

This is a critical situation. Should only have proceeded to swear in, after establishing the fact that the president has no say, or a constitutional right in the cabinet, a government of a party he has opposed so much appoint. He has no ethical right to hod on to any ministry either.
