President Maithripala Sirisena has never dreamt of offering Minister Sarath Fonseka the post of army commander or the responsibility of heading a committee on essential services in case of being disrupted because of TU action,” Labour Minister W.D.J. Seneviratne said today.

He told a news conference held at Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) Headquarters that what the President said as a joke had been given various interpretations.

“When speaking about the non-ending strikes, the President has jokingly asked whether Minister Fonseka could control such situations,” he said. (Vineetha M Gamage)

The whole country is a joke. President downwards. However I do not believe that the President is stupid enough to offer such a post to an ungrateful person like Fonseka .

The Ministers are interpreting what the President supposed to have said. Up to now the President is silent on the matter and has permitted too much talk on the subject, leading to nowhere. The public are entitled to know the truith ?

If , president was joking , why did SF make a statement that president, did ask him twice to head the Army and he said he cant, and then the President asked him to head the essential services in case trouble hits. Are they saying SF dose not understand a joke that he is so dumb, or the president really requested to head the army, but later thought its not a healthy decision, to him and the UNP Gov, and what if SF decide to take to military Gov, and this req will also say that the Gov is weak and desperate.

This is ridiculous! The President should ensure that there is discipline among the Cabinet of Ministers. They should be strictly told to follow the Principle of Collective Responsibility. Whether they agree or not once a decision is made at the Cabinet of Ministers everyone comprising the Cabinet is a stakeholder responsible for such decision. To communicate the decisions taken at the Cabinet to the public a Cabinet spokesman/co-spokesman is appointed and he announces same at a media conference. If any decision is announced incorrectly/distorted or without any responsibility such instance should be taken up at a proper forum or among the Ministers themselves - it may be sometimes difficult because of the size of the Cabinet but, at least, with a majority of them instead of each one of them remarking or commenting on it or disputing it IN PUBLIC LIKE MATCHING PRICES OF PRODUCTS IN THE MARKET PLACE!!! It is ugly and unbecoming of Ministers.
