"Decisions made at the UNP working committee meeting on Thursday to empower Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa to decide on the general elections should not be confined to lip service and be implemented without delay," MP Nalin Bandara Jayamaha said today.
Mr. Jayamaha said Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa should be given the powers as per the working committee decision.
"We are happy about the decisions made by the UNP working committee to appoint Mr. Premadasa as the leader of the UNF, to appoint him as the head of the nomination board and the prime ministerial candidature but these should be implemented soon. Contesting the general election from an alliance led by Mr. Premadasa was our desire," he said.
He said a group of working committee members boycotted the meeting on Thursday as a protest against the move by the party to remove some members from the said committee. (Yohan Perera)
