It was the Legislature which had the power to decide on a course of action to stabilize the country as it the institution which exercised people’s sovereignty on behalf of them, UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe said yesterday.
Mr Wickremesinghe expressed this sentiment at the opening of Rise for Justice protest rally near Town Hall.
“It is Parliament which exercises people’s sovereignty on behalf of them. Therefore all important decisions have to be made by the House. Therefore the Executive is also bound to implement what is decided by Parliament.
“The power is vested in Parliament in accordance with the 19th Amendment to the Constitution,” Mr Wickremesinghe said.
“Our effort through this Rise for Justice Protest is to safeguard the people’s sovereignty and their right to franchise,” he added.( Yohan Perera)

You may have a point but the fact remains you are not a good leader for your party or our the country. You have demonstrated that clearly for the last three years or more.If you have some self dignity and respect for your party and the country you will step down and let the second in command take over.

I am for the legislature, i am only against , you talking of the legislature. Before everything we have sworn to protect the constitution and any one who is violating the constitution is to be charged for the offence. The security forces and the police department has sworn to defend the constitution no matter who is the commadering chief. Your duty is to remind them of that. Any questions?

you may are the course for everything. You never kept your election promises and never acted like a man to full fill any expectation of the masses.

Why you don’t let the people to decide it? Why are you not going for an election! It is as simple as that. Majority in the parliament doesn’t represent the majority of the people any more. Don’t tell us about the majority in parliament.

It is the election which will decide your fate.

Parliament normally does not represent the majority view of the people. It will never because stolen money will buy the poor mans vote and we will have people who can take chillie powder also to the chamber.
