Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Dullas Alahapperuma said today he did not have any proof of match-fixing allegations made by former Sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage.
Aluthgamage earlier charged that he doubt whether the 2011 World Cup final was fixed.
Speaking at a media briefing at the Ministry, Minister Alahapperuma said that he asked the Sports Ministry Secretary, the Cricket Board and from the International Cricket Council (ICC) whether they had such information or conducting any investigation in this regard.
“They said they have no such evidence with them,” the Minister said. “Therefore, without having any evidence to prove, I do not point my finger at anyone.”
"But this issue was publicised by the former Sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage. Even the former Sri Lanka's skipper and parliamentarian Arjuna Ranatunga had raised a question in this regard," he said.
"This is a serious allegation, however, former Sports Minister may have some evidence to prove his statement but conducting an investigation in this regard is the responsibility of the Sports Minister," he added. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)

Hope these investigations would be concluded before the elections. It will give the public the correct opinion of their representatives and whether they are worthy of their support.

Why such nonsense at this time when we have enough and more problems to tackle. Covid, then our jobs, economy and stable govt are priorities not what happened in cricket 9 years ago.
