Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa said a two thirds-majority was required to shut the 'saloon door' and fix a metal door instead to establish a stronger government.
He said this at an event organised by the 'Yuthukama' Organisation to felicitate Mr. Rajapaksa for completing 50 years in politics. It was held at the Foundation Institution on Monday evening.
The reference to the saloon door was made by Mr. Rajapaksa when he was the President to say that anyone could join or leave his political camp as they pleased.
At the event, Mr. Rajapaksa pointed out that a strong Constitution was essential to move the country forward.
"We are a nation with great victories. If we are to continue with these victories, we need a strong Constitution. If we are to amend the Constitution, we need a two thirds-majority," the Prime Minister said. (Lahiru Pothmulla)

Isn't it a good idea to make a constitution with the support of different parties who has different ideologies. It will be acceptable for the whole population rather than a constitution for 67% of the people. 2/3 majority will not lead to a healthy democracy.

Tell the marines regarding your "saloon" and "metal" doors Wednesday, 08 July 2020 09:19 AM
Reminds me of the 1950's song "green door" !. Jokes apart - No door is required. All get together and pass legislation for (1) - no cross overs (2) do away with pensions (3) No subsidized meals in parliament (4) Use of only vehicles from a pool. (5) publish the families wealth as it stands at the moment and annually. These are what the common man wants.

Welikada is fixed with metal doors any use? mobile phones and drugs are on the free move. Salon door is much better transparency. Metal door is just for the family to avoid poking their nose.

This is what he dreams of despite having one foot in the grave. This, after putting the country itself in a deep hole.
