It said the depression is now located in the South-West of Sri Lanka and expected to develop further and move away from the island.

"Heavy rains and strong winds about 80 kmph are expected over the island particularly in the Southern and South-Western areas. It is unfortunate that the Meteorology Department of Sri Lanka yesterday advised the people not to panic over foreign reports forecasting a storm or flood threats in the country. If the MD cannot forecast such storms at least listen to the foreign media reports.

Exactly. Even they went on to say foreign calculations were different to theirs. That may be the only accurate info.

Kindly shutdown the M.D. and its tax payers money going waste. The M.D is a death trap for the people who is much more depended in the fisheries industry. Everyone in this country should look forward to international weather reports. Met Department - Shame on you.. ...............

Met Department must reshuffled and sack the excess inefficient officers without considering their posts or experience. This is a service to the nation , Lot of government servants do not know their responsibilities. They hang around and in the office and at 4.15pm leave the office .This attitude of these officers must be change to over come shortcommings

Lord Wolfstein Thursday, 30 November 2017 10:37 AM

Usually late like all in Sri Lanka

    Rasheed Thursday, 30 November 2017 10:50 AM

Met dept should be closed and we can depend on the foreign report. If they can't give accurate report they should keep their mouth shut rather than giving false report, and misleading the public.
