Former president Maithripala Sirisena will resume his duties as the chairman of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), party's senior vice president Rohana Lakshman Piyadasa said today.
The former president, who was SLFP chairman, decided to remain neutral and not participate in the then SLPP presidential candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa's propaganda campaign after the SLFP officially announced its support to Mr Rajapaksa.
Subsequently, Prof. Piyadasa was appointed as the Acting Chairman of the SLFP until the end of the presidential election.
He told Daily Mirror the former president would naturally be the SLFP chairman now that the presidential election is over. (Sheain Fernandopulle)
