State Minister Vasudeva Nanayakkara said yesterday they had news that former Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran had reportedly escaped Singapore and moved to other hideouts.

He told a news conference that the Attorney General had taken steps to bring him back to Sri Lanka and that the AG’s Department was continuing with its process.

The Minister said the External Affairs Ministry is monitoring the updates on the matter.

He said the government would bring back Mr. Mahendran to Sri Lanka just as KP was brought back.

Mairhri had full power to stop him getting back to Singapore through a court order .Why he did not do that ?

KP was a Sri Lankan terrorist but Mahendran is a Banker and a Singapore Citizen, so you can’t bring him back the same way. Now, where can Mahendran escape to, he must be still in Singapore. But one thing is certain Singapore will not extradite him to Sri Lanka.

This government to save face from the impending embarrassment of not being able to extradite Mahendran from Singapore, is now coming up with the cock and bull story that Mahendran had fled Singapore. Next thing they would say, that it is reported Mahendran had flown to the Moon.

What a joke. Make a song and dance saying will arrest, will bring back before attempting to do so, so that he has time to escape and then say “ahh can’t find” this is like hora police. Counting to ten, alllow to hide and then seek.

How silly to say that Mahendran would be brought the way KP was brought back. Then how is it that so many others are evading even after warrants were issued through thro' Interpol ?
